The Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, also known as the Indianapolis 500, the Indy 500 or The 500, is an American automobile race, held annually, typically on the last weekend in May (specifically over the Memorial Day weekend) at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The 2011 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race marks the 100th Anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500.Since the first race in 1911, 33 drivers have won the race and gone on to win the season championship. ABC broadcaster Marty Reid says he "can't wait" to call the action of the Indianapolis 500 and watch the features the network has compiled to address storylines surrounding the 100th anniversary race, including observations of U.S. presidents about ist significance in American culture. ABC will televise the Indianapolis 500 for the 47th consecutive year, with live pre-race coverage starting at 11 a.m. (ET) May 29 and race coverage at noon.
ESPN on ABC's production will use 64 cameras to televise the premier race of the IZOD IndyCar Series, including a 360-degree rotating onboard camera mounted behind the driver on multiple cars. Unique views will be provided by Batcam, a high-definition camera running on a cable over pit road and the frontstretch that can move at more than 80 mph.
