Costa Rica battled bravely against Colombia and managed to only lose the game by a solitary goal despite being down to ten men half way through the first half after referee Enrique Osses (Chile) sent off Randall Brenes for a challenge in the first half, the straight red seemed harsh as the player played the ball but just got their a little late. The colombian defenders theatrics probably had some influence on the referee but the end result was that Costa Rica were down to ten men and facing an up hill battle. Coach Ricardo de la Volpe will have to be happy with the way his team reacted and battled hard for the rest of the game. With a young side here Costa Rica will again be looking for a solid defensive display.
